Torchon paper has a distinctive rough tooth that catches pigment unevenly in a good way, giving washes a natural, textured grain that smoother papers cannot replicate. At 300gsm, these sheets are heavy enough to take multiple wet layers and glazing without warping too badly, which matters once you start building up watercolour washes.
The A3 size gives you room to work on full studies rather than small sketches, and with 5 sheets in the pack, it is an easy way to try the Torchon texture before committing to a larger pad. A solid choice for watercolour, ink wash or mixed-media painters who want more grain and texture than a standard cold-press sheet.
Because the surface has more tooth than a smooth hot-press paper, dry media such as pastel, charcoal and coloured pencil also tend to grip well on it, which is worth knowing if you like to combine watercolour with drawing media on the same piece. Taping the sheet down at the edges before a wet wash will help keep the paper flatter as it dries, since loose sheets at this weight can still cockle slightly under heavy water.
With only 5 sheets in the pack, it is a low-commitment way to see how you get on with the Torchon texture before investing in a full pad or a heavier block.
