Torchon paper behaves differently to the smoother cold press and hot press sheets in this range. Its uneven tooth catches pigment unevenly, so wet-in-wet colour tends to bleed and pool into soft halos rather than settling flat, an effect a lot of expressive and abstract painters deliberately chase. Because the sheets come loose rather than bound, you can pick a single page for a quick colour study or lay several out side by side while you plan a larger piece.

This heavier, more absorbent surface also means it pays to let fully saturated washes dry flat rather than propped upright, so the cellulose fibres settle evenly instead of warping toward one edge. Once a piece is finished, the acid-free paper should hold its colour well over time, whether it ends up framed, gifted or filed away in a portfolio.
