Description
A rugged, heavily textured watercolour sheet built for artists who want their paint to do something unexpected.
- 300gsm woodfree cellulose paper, heavyweight enough to resist buckling under wet washes
- Torchon surface: a coarse, uneven "toweling" texture named after the French word for a rough cloth
- Pack of 10 loose sheets in A4 size
- Acid free and pH neutral for artwork that lasts
- Suited to watercolour, acrylic, gouache, ink and mixed media
Torchon paper behaves differently to the smoother cold press and hot press sheets in this range. Its uneven tooth catches pigment unevenly, so wet-in-wet colour tends to bleed and pool into soft halos rather than settling flat, an effect a lot of expressive and abstract painters deliberately chase. Because the sheets come loose rather than bound, you can pick a single page for a quick colour study or lay several out side by side while you plan a larger piece.
This heavier, more absorbent surface also means it pays to let fully saturated washes dry flat rather than propped upright, so the cellulose fibres settle evenly instead of warping toward one edge. Once a piece is finished, the acid-free paper should hold its colour well over time, whether it ends up framed, gifted or filed away in a portfolio.
If you already enjoy the character of rough paper but want it in a more everyday A4 size, this pack is an easy way to keep a stash on hand without committing to a full pad or a larger sheet you might not use up.
