Description
A bound art journal on toned kraft paper, giving every drawing a built-in mid-tone instead of a blank white page.
- 170gsm kraft paper with a fibrous, tan-toned texture (Scholar's Sahara finish)
- 48 sheets permanently bound into a journal, A5 size
- 100% acid free, chlorine free and eco-friendly paper
- Ideal for dry mediums, gel pens, ink, poster paint, acrylic, gouache and light watercolour washes
- The tan surface provides a natural mid-tone, useful for building highlights and shadows quickly
Working on toned paper changes how you draw: instead of adding tone to a white page from nothing, you're adding light and dark against a mid-value ground, which is why portrait artists and classical drawing students often reach for kraft-toned sheets like this one. Because it's bound as a journal rather than sold as loose sheets, every study stays together in order, useful if you like reviewing how a series of drawings developed.
The fibrous texture of the Sahara finish also has enough grip to hold white or light-coloured pencil and gel pen marks cleanly on top of the tan ground, which is really the whole point of working tonally: light pigment and dark pigment both need to sit legibly against the mid-value base, and this surface handles both without either one skidding or disappearing into the paper.
Forty eight sheets is a substantial amount to work through, so this suits sustained practice rather than a one-off project, and the A5 size keeps the whole book easy to carry along to a class or a life drawing session.
